Our fourth grade class is amazing. It is really fun working with a promethean board. We used it to play a jeopardy game as an assessment. After asking the question we would ask a student to come up and wave a magnifying glass over the square to see the answer. The class loved the game and it helped the class stayed engaged in what was going on.
Also the students use their computers to check their spelling and to look up definitions of words. Something that I thought was way awesome was that the teacher could put her lesson plans on each of the students computers so that the students could follow along with the teacher.
Keeping the students from being distracted by the computes was difficult but the teacher has trained her class well. The directions for the 4th graders have to be very explicit. To keep the students on task the teacher makes the students push back their keyboards and mice after every job. The students know that if they do not comply that they will have to turn off their computers and just watch the lesson on board. Most students love being on the computer so they will do whatever it takes to continue working on their own computer.
I hope to be in a school someday where they have some many awesome tools. I know that it would take more training in the beginning but it would be worth it in the long run.
