I'm CDC with PDP

This week we learned about Personal Development Profile. Our assignment was read some articles and watch some videos about the use of technology in schools. Students have much more access to media and technology in this generation so the discussion was about how a teacher can take advantage of these technological advances to teach the curriculum.

I'm impressed that schools understand the need for technology and have to vision to use it to help students succeed. I want to be part of that vision. Teachers need all the tools they can get, in order to help students be their best. Some great tools come in the form of technology. I saw how tools like computers in the classroom helped students learn. I loved watching how a teacher mixed old school tried and true methods with new age equipment. The use of a smart board made lesson planning and direction so much easier. These assets are what are going to help our students compete with others around the globe.

New technology has always been used in schools. How would our classrooms be today if we still taught by candle light or used 8-track tapes for audio? How far behind the education race would we be if we didn't take advantage of smart board technology or used the internet in our classrooms? Education has always evolved and adapted. As a future teacher I'm eager to evolve and adapt with the freshest methods and technology.

Education budgets willing, I plan on engaging my students with every tool at my disposal. I realize that many of my students will be technology natives. That being said I know that it is my responsibility to teach. I need to be the one who has the latest training so that my students get the best material. I want to have a classroom website, post my students grades on-line, and have my students blog. My hope is that my students will have every advantage possible so that they can be the best they can be.
