Picasso

This week I learned how to use a digital camera to take photos, then using a photo editor to manipulate the pictures and use those photos in a power point presentation. Taking and up-loading the pictures was easy. I like taking pictures. My group decided to use the Shape lesson plan. We walked around the campus and took photos of objects and their shapes. It was really fun using everyday things to help teach concepts. I was so excited that I uploaded a picture I took while visiting Cove Fort in southern utah. This is one of the original log cabins that that founders of Cove Fort lived in.

What this means for me is that I will be able to take pictures when I'm out and about and then use those pictures in my lessons. Next time I'm on a vacation I will be able to look around and try and find interesting pictures that I will be able to use in my class. Not only this but I will be able to use other peoples photos so that they can be used in my class as well.

Power point presentations and photographs will be used by my future students to make class presentations, and to have my students teach lessons to each other. I know that this will make class both more interesting and enjoyable. I want to be able to give my students and opportunity to share what they learn with each other and using photos is an easy way to do that. I can see using this information and it will change me as a teacher. I will be able to give more meaningful lesson that will be more relevant to my students because I will use photos from their everyday lives.

Just pondering this blog, I thought of how my future students will be able to take photos of class projects, parties and presentations and then those students will be able to post those photos on our classroom blog. I know that the students will enjoy that and it will help the parents get more involved in their students academic lives.

As I watched this weeks video it gave me a little chuckle. I have seen how power points can go bad. It makes sense to use such a great tool like powerpoint in a class but if it is overdone I can see how it would take away from the lesson. I worry for myself that my power points will be boring but I would rather that then have them so jumbled up into a giant mess. I just want to be able to help my students learn if I can do that I will be happy with myself.
