digital tails

This week we are talking about Digital stories. Digital stories are a great way to make a lesson more engaging. This week we specifically are talking about scripting, narration and story boarding.

What this mean to me as a teacher is that I have one more awesome tool in my arsenal. Teaching is a hard job, not just for the teacher but for the student. Students learn in different ways and school can be difficult. With web 2.0 tools, learning becomes more enjoyable.

I think the reason we are learning about this subject is because classrooms are changing. A classroom is not just a chalkboard and desks anymore. Classrooms use technology and teacher need to know how to utilize that technology.

To me and my colleagues this means that we need to step up and learn how to best teach our students. We need to find a balance between direct instruction and the best technology so that we can reach our students in a powerful way. A digital story gives us that power.

With Digital stories my students don't just have to listen to me gab. The students will be access primary sources. They will see the pictures, hear the music and experience the lessons that are being taught rather than just looking at a book in front of them.
Students could even create their own digital stories. As a group the student could gather information on a topic make a digital story and share it with their classmates. I think that that is amazing. I love how my entire class can be involved in not only learning but teaching each other.
